A message from the Tournament Directors: (UPDATED:  6/8/2020)

Thank you so much for your continued patience in our postponements and attempt to hold the 2020 Tampa United Slam in such unprecedented times. From all reports the continued work with your teams has been extraordinary in these chaotic times. We are confident the plan we developed in cooperation with the Convention Center and City of Tampa to run the event is solid and would provide as safe an environment as possible for hosting a junior volleyball tournament this summer at the Tampa Convention Center.

Even once that governor's order reopening youth sports was announced, many were unable to restart practice as they were unable to secure facilities. Concerns have also been raised that lack of practice and conditioning could lead to an increase in injuries in a tournament setting and some families are simply not ready to send their athletes back to competition.  Though we are in Phase 2 of the Governor's reopening, the 7 day average for new cases and deaths due to COVID-19 is level or even slightly on the uptick. There definitely is the possibility that additional safely, public health, and security measures could be imposed with little or no warning that would cause a last minute stoppage to the event.

With all of this in mind and after multiple internal & external conversations, including our medical staff, it is with an incredibly heavy heart that we must cancel the 2020 Tampa United Slam. The health and safety of the athletes, coaches, spectators, tournament and convention center staff, is our highest priority. We feel there is still too much uncertainty and discomfort for large gatherings at this time and it would not be in everyone's best interests to proceed. Emails regarding refund processing have already been sent to clubs as of this update.

We believe the climate for youth sports and group gatherings will continue to improve and we will still be able to host March Mayhem is slated for July 25-26 at the Florida State Fairgrounds.  That's just over 6 weeks away!  Hopefully we can give those of you who are continuing to practice a fun "season-ending" event as we move into the off-season for high school and "mini-club".  As always, if you have any questions please contact AJ at josephaj1@aol.com or 719-201-7323. Thanks and stay safe and healthy!
